This Privacy Policy describes how StemSplit ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Services"). By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

We collect information you provide directly to us, including:

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, name, and password.
  • Payment Information: When you make a purchase, our payment processors (Stripe, Lemon Squeezy) collect payment card details. We do not store complete credit card numbers on our servers.
  • Audio Files: When you use our stem separation service, you upload audio files that are temporarily stored on our servers for processing.
  • URL Submissions: When you submit a URL (including YouTube URLs) for processing, we collect the URL, submission timestamp, and your certification that you have rights to process the content.
  • Communications: When you contact us, we collect information in your messages, including email address and message content.

1.2 Information Collected from URL Submissions

When you use our URL processing feature (including YouTube URLs), we collect:

  • The URL itself: The full URL you submit for processing
  • Submission metadata: Timestamp, your user ID, IP address at time of submission
  • Certification records: Your acknowledgment that you have rights to process the content
  • Processing metadata: Duration of content, processing status, and completion time
  • Content metadata: Title and duration of the audio (as provided by the source platform)

We do NOT collect:

  • Your YouTube account credentials or login information
  • Your browsing history on YouTube or other platforms
  • Any information about your YouTube account or subscriptions
  • Content from URLs you do not explicitly submit

Important: We do not have any data-sharing relationship with YouTube, Google, or other third-party platforms. Submitting a URL to our service does not grant us access to your account on that platform.

1.3 Information Collected Automatically

When you access or use our Services, we automatically collect certain information:

  • Device Information: We collect information about the device you use to access our Services, including hardware model, operating system, unique device identifiers, browser type, and mobile network information.
  • Log Information: We collect log information when you use our Services, including access times, pages viewed, IP address, and the page you visited before navigating to our Services.
  • Location Information: We may infer your approximate location based on your IP address.
  • Usage Information: We collect information about your interactions with our Services, including the features you use and the actions you take.

1.4 Device Fingerprinting

We use Fingerprint.js and similar technologies to create a unique identifier for your device. This technology collects information about your browser configuration, installed plugins, screen resolution, time zone, language settings, and other device characteristics. We use this information to:

  • Prevent Fraud and Abuse: Detect and prevent the creation of multiple free accounts by the same user
  • Protect Our Services: Identify suspicious activity and protect against unauthorized access
  • Enforce Our Terms: Ensure compliance with our terms of service and prevent abuse of free trials

This device fingerprint is stored and associated with your account. We do not use this information for advertising purposes.

2. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to collect and store information about your interactions with our Services.

Google Analytics collects the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit our site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine information collected through Google Analytics with personally identifiable information.

Google's ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to our site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

You can opt-out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

3.2 Google Ads (AdWords)

We use Google Ads to display advertisements across the Google Display Network and in Google search results. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

3.3 Meta Ads (Facebook/Instagram)

We use the Meta Pixel (formerly Facebook Pixel) to measure the effectiveness of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram, and to deliver targeted advertisements to you on Meta platforms.

The Meta Pixel collects information about your device, the pages you visit on our site, and the actions you take. This information is shared with Meta to:

  • Measure conversions from Facebook and Instagram ads
  • Build targeted audiences for future ads
  • Remarket to people who have already taken actions on our website

3.4 AdRoll

We use AdRoll for retargeting and display advertising. AdRoll collects information about your visits to our website and uses this information to show you relevant advertisements on other websites you visit.

  • Prevent Fraud: Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and abuse of our Services

  • Copyright Compliance: Respond to DMCA takedown requests and cooperate with rights holders pursuant to valid legal process

4.1 How We Use URL Submission Data

When you submit a URL for processing, we use the collected information to:

  • Process Your Request: Download and process the audio at the URL you specified
  • Maintain Records: Keep logs of submissions for abuse prevention and legal compliance
  • Respond to Legal Process: Provide information in response to valid subpoenas, court orders, or DMCA requests
  • Enforce Our Terms: Identify and terminate accounts that violate our Terms of Service
  • Prevent Repeat Infringement: Track and terminate repeat infringers as required by the DMCA

We do NOT use URL submission data to:

  • Build profiles of your music preferences for advertising
  • Share your submission history with YouTube, Google, or other platforms
  • Sell or rent your URL submission history to third parties
  • Target advertisements based on specific URLs you have submitted

5. How We Share Your Information

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

5.1 Service Providers

We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including:

  • Payment processors (Stripe, Lemon Squeezy)
  • Cloud hosting providers
  • Analytics providers
  • Advertising networks
  • Customer support tools
  • Email service providers

5.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).

5.3 Copyright and Rights Holder Inquiries

We may disclose information about your URL submissions and account to:

  • Copyright owners and their authorized representatives in response to valid DMCA subpoenas or court orders
  • Law enforcement agencies investigating potential copyright infringement or other illegal activity
  • Third-party platforms (such as YouTube or Google) in response to valid legal process

Information we may disclose in response to valid legal process includes:

  • Your account information (email, name, registration date)
  • URLs you have submitted for processing
  • Timestamps of your submissions
  • IP addresses associated with your submissions
  • Your certification records (acknowledgment that you had rights to process content)

We will not voluntarily disclose your information to rights holders without valid legal process, except where we have a good faith belief that disclosure is necessary to prevent imminent harm or illegal activity.

5.4 Business Transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5.5 With Your Consent

We may share your information with third parties when you give us explicit consent to do so.

6. Data Retention

6.1 Audio Files (Uploaded)

  • Original uploaded files are automatically deleted within 48 hours of upload
  • Processed/separated audio files are available for download for 14 days after processing, then automatically deleted
  • Preview files are deleted within 24 hours

6.2 Audio Files (URL-Submitted)

For content processed via URL submission (including YouTube):

Note: We may retain URL submission records and certification data longer if required by law, legal process, or to respond to claims related to copyright infringement.

6.3 Account Information

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you Services. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.

6.4 Analytics Data

Analytics data is retained according to the retention policies of our third-party analytics providers (typically 14-26 months for Google Analytics).

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Encryption of data at rest
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls and authentication
  • Employee training on data protection

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

8. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country.

When we transfer your information to other countries, we will protect that information as described in this Privacy Policy and in accordance with applicable law.

9. Your Rights and Choices

9.1 Account Information

9.2 Marketing Communications

You may opt out of receiving promotional communications from us by following the unsubscribe instructions in those messages. If you opt out, we may still send you non-promotional communications, such as those about your account or our ongoing business relations.

9.3 Cookies

Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. You can usually set your browser to remove or reject cookies. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of our Services.

9.4 Do Not Track

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature that signals to websites that you do not want your online activity tracked. Our Services do not currently respond to DNT signals.

10. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

Our Services are not directed to children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

Our Services may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

14. YouTube and Third-Party Platform Privacy

14.1 No Data Sharing Relationship

We have no data-sharing relationship with YouTube, Google, or any other third-party content platform. When you submit a YouTube URL to our service:

  • We do not send your personal information to YouTube or Google
  • We do not receive any information from YouTube about you or your YouTube account
  • YouTube does not know that you have used our service
  • We do not have access to your YouTube account, subscriptions, or viewing history

14.2 What YouTube May Know

When our servers access a URL you submit, YouTube's servers may log:

  • The IP address of our processing servers (not your IP address)
  • The time of access
  • The video/audio being accessed

This is standard web server logging and is governed by YouTube's own privacy policy, not ours.

14.3 Your YouTube Privacy

Your use of our URL processing feature does not affect your privacy settings on YouTube or any other platform. We encourage you to review:

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
